kerry ann doherty

Kerry Ann Doherty was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, raised in Calgary, AB, and now resides in Niagara on The Lake, ON.  She fell in love with the theatre at a you age and then attended the University of Calgary where she graduated with a BFA in drama and a minor in dance.  In 2018 she graduated with her MFA in Theatre Directing from the internationally distinguished conservatoire in London, UK's East 15 Theatre School where she specialized in Shakespeare, Musical Theatre and Physical Theatre.   While in the UK, she was invited to participate in a Directors Symposium at the Shakespeare's Globe Theatre where they discussed adapting Shakespeare and staging it on their outdoor stage.  She was also part of the creative team at the Queens Theatre that brought the first new adaptation of Priscilla Queen of the Desert post Broadway and London's West End.

Upon returning to Canada she was accepted as the RBC Emerging Director for Studio 180 and she completed her Diploma in University Teaching from the University of New Brunswick.

Kerry Ann has directed two world premieres. Nobody's Children, book and lyrics by award winning Lezlie Wade and music by Scott Christian produced by Yellow Door Theatre Projects at First Ontario Place in St Catharines, and One More Time, book, lyrics and music by Rebecca Peacock at the Tristan Bates Theatre, London, UK.

She was the Founding Artistic Director of the Little Lion Theatre Company which has had productions in London and Stratford on Avon, and theatreSix in Canada where where she directed the Canadian Professional Debut of George Brant's Grounded, which was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Award in 2020. During the Pandemic, Kerry Ann connected with companies and artists internationally (England, Iceland, Canada, Italy, Scotland and the USA) to create multi media performance projects The Isolation Project and Taking off the Mask.

As an accredited member of AACE (Association of Actors Coaches and Educators) Kerry Ann has been a lecturer at the Shaw Festival, East 15 Theatre School, Yellowdoor Theatre Projects, as well as a guest director at Goldsmithes University, the University of Essex and the University of Windsor.

Apart from directing and teaching, Kerry Ann has choreographed musicals, Shakespeare productions, and other pieces across Canada and the UK and is an accomplished actor for over 25 years (most recently at the Shaw Festival) and has nominations for a Dora Mavor Moore Award and an Elizabeth Sterling Haynes award.
